Description
A beautiful, highly sought-after vintage mid-century Italian hand-carved alabaster miniature decorative bird bath / pedestal compote bowl. This classic Hollywood Regency or Grandmillennial style accent piece features a dynamic, sculpted rim with repeating geometric carved notches resting atop a traditional turned ball pedestal and square plinth base.Perched along the rim are four individually hand-carved doves/birds detailed with wings and feathers. The birds are attached via vintage metal mounting pins. The stone boasts a stunning natural ivory and cream body with complex, deep gray and charcoal veining throughout. Features its original partial paper label on the underside of the base reading "MADE IN ITALY". Perfect as a luxury catchall, vanity tray, or statement bookshelf object. Good vintage condition with beautiful natural stone character. Contains all four original carved birds, which is rare for these miniatures. Close-up inspection shows typical minor age-related wear, light surface scratching inside the basin, and a tiny, clean chip/fracture on the tail/wing tip of one dove (see macro photos). Structurally sound with solid connections. Sold as-is.
