Origin: Japan (Likely Hakone region) Period: Late Meiji to Taisho Era (circa 1890s–1920s) Type: Tabletop Tansu / Cabinet / Jewelry-Document Box Materials: Mixed woods (Yosegi marquetry), lacquer panels, hand-painted gilt accents, brass/bronze hardware. Configuration: Two outer swinging doors opening to reveal 4 hidden marquetry drawers; 3 lower exterior drawers. Dimensions: Approximately 11.5" H x 12.5" W x 6" D (Please verify with a tape measure). Up for auction is a beautiful, authentic vintage Japanese tabletop Tansu cabinet showcasing two distinctive traditional artistic traditions: Hakone Yosegi-zaiku marquetry and gilt lacquer painting.The exterior features two stunning hinged cabinet doors decorated with hand-painted lacquer panels depicting birds amidst spring blossoms. The frame is reinforced with ornate, engraved brass corner brackets and hinges characteristic of the turn-of-the-century Meiji/Taisho eras.Opening the central cabinet reveals four beautifully preserved inner drawers decorated with intricate geometric Yosegi wood inlay. Together with the three exposed lower drawers, the chest offers a total of seven functional storage compartments.
