Description
• Artist / Engraver: Friedrich Guimpel (1774–1839) • Subject Matter: Lilium candidum (Madonna Lily) • Medium: Authentic 19th-century hand-colored copperplate engraving / lithograph • Frame Style: Ornate Gilt / Gold Patina Finish An elegant 19th-century botanical engraving featuring "Lilium candidum" (commonly known as the Madonna Lily or True White Lily). This highly detailed natural history plate illustrates a flowering stem with brilliant white petals, slender green foliage, and its complete bulb and root network at the lower left. The right margin features numbered anatomical cross-sections (1–6) highlighting the internal reproductive parts of the flower. The plate is explicitly signed in the lower right copperplate margin: "F. Guimpel sc.", identifying it as the work of the celebrated German botanical artist and engraver Friedrich Guimpel (1774–1839). This piece originates from Dr. Friedrich Gottlob Hayne’s authoritative scientific survey Medical Botany (Getreue Darstellung und Beschreibung), published in Berlin in 1822.
