Description
An exceptional and highly collectible example of traditional Middle Eastern Bedouin tribal jewelry, featuring a genuine late 18th to early 19th-century Spanish Colonial 8 Reales silver coin (Pillar Dollar). The reverse of the coin is dynamically featured, showcasing the iconic crowned Spanish royal shield flanked by the Pillars of Hercules and bearing the partial inscription "HISPAN ET IND REX". Historically highly valued for its pure silver content, this trade coin was repurposed into wearable family capital. The tribal setting features robust Bedouin folk craftsmanship, including a heavy, custom-fitted textured silver bail securely crimped to the top edge for suspension. The lower perimeter is adorned with an intricate, multi-tiered hand-soldered chainmail fringe of interlocking silver links, rings, and geometric dangle plaques designed to create a dramatic aesthetic and rhythmic sound when worn. A beautiful, historically rich statement piece blending European colonial minting history with traditional desert nomad craftsmanship. Coin only - acid tested positive for silver although silver content percentage is unknown. Weight: 107 grams
