Description
Late 19th/Early 20th Century magnificent pair of antique Central Asian Turkmen (Turkoman) tribal cuff bracelets. Crafted from high-grade tribal silver, these heavy, rigid cuffs are iconic examples of traditional nomadic metalwork, likely hailing from the Tekke or Ersari tribes. Each bracelet showcases meticulous craftsmanship with chased backgrounds, partial fire-gilding (gold washed details), and twisted rope-wire filigree borders. They feature prominent bezel-set oval cabochons: one bracelet is adorned with vibrant blue lapis lazuli stones containing natural pyrite inclusions, while the other features rich, deep red carnelian stones, historically prized in the region for talismanic protection and vitality. The open ends terminate in a striking, stylized triple-claw (or bird/snake head) motif. In Turkmen culture, these symbolic claws served a dual purpose: they mechanically secured the rigid cuff comfortably to the wrist while providing spiritual protection to shield the wearer from the evil eye One of the lapis lazuli stones has a hairline crack (as shown) Weight 162.17 grams Intererior wrist: 2-1/4: Claw to claw opening: 1.5" Width: approx 1-1/8" Ridgid silver metal. Not flexible
