Vintage Art Deco period figural desk lamp dating back to the 1920s or 1930s. The heavy cast white metal or spelter base features a beautifully sculpted hooded friar sitting on a stone while intensely studying an open book. The piece retains its original multi-toned polychrome finish with rich gold highlights on the robe and rock, layered over deep chocolate brown and red under-layers. The back of the base is cast with the clear identifying title Reading Monk. It comes equipped with its original curved gooseneck style metal riser pipe, a standard brass socket with a black turn switch, and a vintage frayed cloth cord that should be rewired before use.
